Definition:  The "villian(s)" of a story.  An antagonist obstructs the protagonist from reaching their goal.  An antagonist can be a person, animal, object, thought, themselves, anything.

Examples from The Pearl:  The doctor, the scorpion, the pearl buyers, Kino's love of the pearl, the man Kino killed in chapter 5, and the trackers.
