Definition:  Language that contains or uses figures of speech, especially similes and metaphors.

Example from The Pearl:  "Behind him Juana's fire leaped into flame and threw spears of light through the chinks of the brush-house..." (p.2).

Example by me:  The landscape was spectacular, the waterfalls roaring with might, the trees as majestic as the statue of liberty, and the sun hurling its rays to the ground.
