Assonance

  • Definition:  The repetition of vowel sounds at the beginning of every word or stressed syllable in a line of verse.  Similar to rhyme, but the consonants don't have to match.

 

  • Example from The Pearl:  "We do know... from birth to the..." (p.54).

 

  • Example by me:  To some people, Game of Thrones is as addicting as bones to a dog.
