Definition:  The repetition of the same consonant or vowel at the beginning of each word or the stressed syllable of each line or verse.  It includes assonance and consonance.

Example from The Pearl:  "Juana, in her woman's soul, knew that the mountain would stand... that the sea would surge..." (p.59).

Example by me:  Peter Piper picked a peck of pickled peppers.
