Alliteration

  • Definition:  The repetition of the same consonant or vowel at the beginning of each word or the stressed syllable of each line or verse.  It includes assonance and consonance.

 

  • Example from The Pearl:  "Juana, in her woman's soul, knew that the mountain would stand... that the sea would surge..." (p.59).

 

  • Example by me:  Peter Piper picked a peck of pickled peppers.
