Definition:  Elements of literature and poetry that emphasize sound.  They include alliteration, assonance, consonance, onomatopoeia, and rhyme.

Example from The Pearl:  Greedy fingers went through his clothes, frantic fingers searched him..." (p.59) (consonance).

Example by me:  The big, bustling city was too noisy for Bob (consonance).
